Rotoscoping Notes

Rotoscoping is the technique where animators trace over footage, frame by frame, for use in animations. The rotoscope was originally used, but in recent years, has been replaced by the computer. Rotoscoping without moving the line too much takes great skill, but some like the boily effect that you can get, and go for that effect. Rotoscoping was used as special effects in some live action movies, an example would be Star Wars, and how it was used to make the lightsaber effects. Rotoscoping is mainly used to recreate realistic human movements, by drawing over actual footage of people. In the movie Scanner Darkly they used a program called Rotoshop, which allowed for the filling in of frames by use of interpolation, which works like the filling in of frames in flash, when you add key frames, and tween between them.
