Digital Sculpting
Digital Sculpting, also know as 3d modeling, or sculpting, is the use of software that allowsed for the manipulation of digital objects as if it were clay. Many different programs exist, each with their own benefits, and disadvantages of use. A lot of the softweres out there use polygon surfacemeshes to represent the object, and are manipulated pushing and pulling the polygons. A benefit of polygon meshes is that they allow for the manipulation of objects at different resolutions. Other digital sculpting tools use voxel based geometry, with which the volume of the object is the basic element, and material can be added or removed, which is a lot like clay. A benefit of voxel sculpting is that you have complete freedom over the shape of the object, and you don't have to constantly think about the arrangement of polygons on the object. A downside of voxels is that you are limited when doing finer detals on them. Using digital sculpting programs can be done with both a mouse or a tablet. Digital sculpting is used in a wide range of media, from video games, to movies.
