Coraline Response

Synopsis:

The movie Coraline, to me was about the lesson to not take things for granted, because you could lose it in an instant. Coraline had two different families, the first one seemed to not understand her at all, but the second one seemed perfect.  When Coraline was upset with her parents it seemed very easy to forget about them, and go to the Other Mother, but after she found out about her intents, she started to regret ever going there, and when she escaped, she found that she had lost her actual parents, and found that she missed them dearly.

My favourite scene:

My favourite scene was when Coraline was in the Other world, and the feral cat were talking outside of the other house. The reason I liked this scene so much was how realistic the cats movements were, and how I could easily believe in the cat being a cat. I also really enjoyed the scene because the voice acting wasn't too over the top, but like the director said, it wasn't just a guy in a cat suit. The reason I picked this scene over all of the others was when the cat jumped onto the tree, and disappeared behind the branch, and started to pop in and out of the trees at different points, it made me think and imagine different ways that someone could do that, like when the cat vanished behind the branch they probably made multiple cats, with different portions missing, or they could have edited the cat out with photoshop or other after effects.

Design Aspects and Tips:

I really liked how they did the different facial expressions of the dolls, with the different face halves for them, to capture a wider range of expressions, and movements. I also enjoyed how they used photoshop, and that other program the person who did the fire used, I like how it mixed stop motion, with more modern ways of effects. Using dry ice to create a fog was a brilliant idea, and I think that it is very cool how they did that. I also learned that the puppets were built with silicon and not clay, I never expected that, I knew a little bit about armatures already, but I didn't know they were so extensive, and useful.
